It's a one-hour wait to get into Ippudo for a bowl of ramen. That's a relatively short time when you consider that the noodles are coming from Japan's "Ramen King."
Chef Shigemi Kawahara was the champion of TV Tokyo's national ramen competition three times in a row from 1995-1998. The competition tests the skills of ramen experts from all over the nation.
In 2005, Kawahara earned the first official title of "Ramen King" on a TBS program “Ramen King Championship.”
By now, everyone in Japan knows Kawahara as the Ramen King and his chain of ramen restaurants, Ippudo, won the Tokyo Ramen of the Year Award for 2010-2011, presented by Tokyo Weekly.
